Katie Rhodes Sophomore Class Publicity Officer 9-2-21 Position Assessment: Thus far, I have worked with the officer team in the design of the class t-shirts. We had a few meetings to discuss the pros and cons of last year's shirt and what to incorporate for this year. We asked a few of our peers what they would like to see in this year’s shirt and tried to use their feedback when it came to the final design. At pow wow we did pre-orders for those t-shirts and encouraged people to buy them. I have posted about pow wow, 1st day of school, spirit days, Club Rush, and the Back to School Dance. I try to capture people’s attention with my posts and have a few words and an appealing design. I helped in making the posters for the BTSD tickets and made posters for both yoga club and class t-shirts. For the BTSD, we made posters for the ticket sales and for the decoration for the dance itself. We wrote down the names of all of the sophomores on orange paper to personally invite everyone to the dance. It also added extra neon decor to our campus. I also helped the sophomore officers set up the t-shirt table for Club Rush and on the Friday after. Special Committee: I’m on the BTSD Decorations Crew. We are going to set up the decorations for the dance and then watch the DJ equipment. We made posters last week and will probably make so more in about 2 weeks. Mentorship Evaluation: Abby has been super helpful already. She is always there when I have little questions regarding anything. We text quite a bit and she always has good ideas for me. She always makes sure that I know what’s coming up and that I know how to complete it properly. Abby has been a big help and I’m glad she’s my mentor. Concerns: Between the officer team, I think we need to have more communication on what’s going on even if the other person(s) are not directly involved. I know that it has happened a few times where we agreed upon something and then the plan changed between the people that it involved and the other two were confused. We could benefit from talking more to each other and having a group understanding about everything we do. Positive Comment: Thus far, we have been pretty on top of things. We haven’t had to scramble because of procrastination. Everyone always knows what they're supposed to be doing and we all get our part of the job done. We are always on schedule and complete everything in a timely manner. Change: I would like to see us as sophomore officers interact with the other sophomores more. We are all one grade and are all in the same leadership class but I feel like we don’t connect with them as much as we should. It feels very separated and I think we could work on getting more connected as the sophomores in leadership. My Impact: I have really tried to connect with the freshmen and newbies. I know what it was like to be a confused freshman in leadership and I had a lot of older kids that made it a lot easier. I’ve tried to just talk to them about life, leadership, school etc, or even give them a smile or hello in the hallway. A few of them are from volleyball so they feel more comfortable asking me questions or advice. I want to make them feel as welcome as possible and that I’m here if they need help.
Katie Rhodes Sophomore Class Publicity Officer 12-9-21 Position Assessment-This far I have helped my officer team in all things Formal and Warm & Fuzzy Week. Regarding Formal, I helped plan, sell tickets, make posts, I ran the RHS formal account, set up, set down, I picked up the tickets, and I ordered/picked up the bundt cakes. I helped Kylee pick out decorations and figure out the tent situation. I sold formal tickets out of the student store. I ran the RHS formal account by making/sharing posts and posting the formal proposals. I was there from 10-2:30 on Saturday to set up while my parents picked up the bundt cakes. On Sunday, we took down the lights, scraped bundt cakes off the ground, swept the floor, and took down decorations. I picked up the paper tickets and cut off the bottom of them because they were printed incorrectly. I emailed Nothing Bundt Cakes and set up the order. I picked them up the day of. We got rid of all of the class t-shirts that were left over. I helped create the game plan for our class tree for Winter Wonderland White-Out Wednesday. I made all of the posts for Warm and Fuzzy week spirit days. I also made the physical posters that we hung around campus. Special Committee-I was on the Winter Formal Committee because I am a sophomore officer. We basically just planned/set up/set down, Winter Formal. I also was on the Dude be Nice committee for United clubs and gave Sam her flowers. Mentorship Evaluation-Abby has been very helpful regarding Formal, assignments, and other school subjects as well. We went to lunch and were able to hang out there. I have texted her a couple of times and asked her questions and she was always helpful and honest. Whenever I have a question she is always more than happy to help. Concerns-I feel like we have poor communication and no one knows what's going on. Other than the officers, the rest of the sophomores are confused about what we are doing. I feel like everything is last minute and we all get very stressed out because it was procrastinated. I also feel like everyone's work is not being noticed and that people are being overlooked. There is a lot of talk of only a couple people doing the work and that no one else helps but there is no delegation going on. Some people's jobs are being taken over because it has to be done a certain way. Job assignments could be dispersed more equally. Positive Comment-I think Formal turned out really well for us and it was nice to bond together. I feel like we are more experienced because we have planned a dance on our own, as a class. We are really good at figuring things out and making things work. For what we knew and had, I think our Formal turned out great. I think that each of the groups of jobs have been doing well and that we haven’t had too many hiccups. Change- The only thing I think we could change is our communication, delegation, and procrastination. If we could change those things, I think we would be set. Our communication needs some work and it always has. We need to delegate tasks better and not work at the last minute. I need to do spirit bombs and I told myself I was going to learn how to do it after formal, so maybe I can get one done during finals week. That is a big chunk of my job that I haven’t been doing and I need to. My Impact-I have spent countless hours on Canva and making the posts for both the class of 24 account and the RHS formal account. I cut the bottom off of all 350 formal tickets because it was formatted wrong. I ordered the bundt cakes and took care of everything there. I swept the tennis courts for an hour and scraped bundt cakes off of the tennis courts. I have been trying to help the other officers wherever I can because I know we all need help. My goal has been to be an extra set of hands when someone needs a hand.
Katie Rhodes ASB Mtg January Soph. Class Publicity 2-9-22
Position Assessment-This month has been pretty calm compared to the last couple of months. I publicized Winterfest and helped the other officers with winterfest decorations. Other than that, I have been reposting the Link Crew/Renaissance posts as well as any dress up day posts. I helped make the Winterfest decorations and came to school early to help set up the decorations. Special Committee-N/A Standing Committee-N/A Mentorship Evaluation-Abby and I went to lunch a few weeks back. We talked about elections and just what I could improve on to be better in the following months/years. She has been really helpful if I need any help regarding formatting, assignments, event planning, and more. I appreciate the time she takes out to help me and truly wants to help me. Concerns-The only concern I think I have is about time management. The sophomores, regarding Winterfest especially, worked very last minute on everything. It was a few nights that it was around 11 o’clock and we were scrambling to finish the decorations before the next competition. It was very rushed and that was probably why we didn’t do very well. If we had planned it out when we were supposed to and worked ahead on the tasks, maybe we would’ve done better throughout the competitions. This has been a theme with our class since we started last year. I think if we have more people that try to keep us on track and on time we will do fine. Positive Comment- Our communication has gotten much better. Kylee has started using the whole sophomore grade group chat and this has improved our communication and there have been less issues. This has also helped get more involvement from the sophomore commissioners. When we have to decorate, the majority of the class comes to help and there are less communication misunderstandings. Moreover, this has improved the environment and there is less tension between all of us. It has been more fun to work together because we are having fun and people aren’t talking about how confused they were or how no one shares the game plan. The officers have put more effort into asking the whole grade for input and this has generated more ideas and better results for events. Change-I want to change our time management. We don’t plan until the last minute and many people aren’t able to go to someone’s house on the fly at 11 pm. Our work gets sloppy and if we communicate about the upcoming events through a message or meeting, we would have more time to work and less stress. Our communication has been so much better but there is always room for improvement. We need to discuss our game plan before the week or event happens to ensure that we are producing our best work and it is done the night before. It turns into a few people throwing something together. My Impact-Since we haven’t had much to do since Winterfest, I have been trying to step in where I can. I have been taking this time to work ahead and plan for the upcoming weeks. Throughout Winterfest, I helped Kylee with anything she needed, whether it was getting supplies or making the decorations at her house. I also helped edit some speeches as well as stepping in to help the spirit commissioners with spirit counts.
IKatie Rhodes ASB mtg Feb & March Soph. Class Publicity Officer 4-14-22
Position Assessment-Thus far in the semester, the jobs regarding the officer team have been kept to a minimum. We volunteered for the parking lot for Almond Blossom in February. We created the mentorship booklets. We wrapped the triangles in black paper for Gallery of the Arts and helped clean up after. I have been working on publicity for the challenge and creating physical and online posters. We have preparing bags for the Modesto Leadership Conference. Special Committee-I am a part of the publicity component to the challenge. We are planning on creating different shaped posters to spice them up a bit. Considering the theme is Hawaiian, we want to make posters shaped like hibiscus, sunglasses, and surfboards. For the online component of publicity, we have created flyers that will be sent out regarding the dance and various activities during that week. I have volunteered to be on the committee for Tribe Award. We haven’t received much information on that yet, but we will start to get things going after break. Standing Committee-I am not a part of any standing committees at this time. Mentorship Evaluation-Abby has been helpful for various different reasons. She has been a good example of what it is like to be an elder in the class and the responsibility and dedication required to be in this class. Whenever I have questions, she is more than willing to help me and I am not afraid to ask for her help. We have been to lunch a couple of times and will stop in the halls to have a conversation. Concerns-The only concern I have at this moment is that the officers have completely stopped talking at all. I understand we don’t have any group assignments anymore, but we should still be utilizing each other and the group chat. We have been talking but regarding leadership, it seems very individual. I understand that the dynamic has changed because of the election but we are still a team for the rest of the year. Positive Comment-Since the sophomores are pretty much done with big events for the rest of the year, it has given us an opportunity to hang out with many of the other students in the class. A lot of the underclassmen are just helping where they can and this has created unique opportunities to talk to people in the class that haven’t built strong relationships yet. Change-I think we all could just use our time a little better. When Morty gives us work time, we don’t always utilize it as we should. We might be able to get more work done and have less bubbles if we use the time Morty gives us. My Impact-These last few months, I have just been helping where I can. Anyone who has asked for extra assistance, I have stepped in to help. I am trying to bring some encouragement and positive energy during this stressful and busy time for some. I have tried to get to know more people that I didn’t get to interact with as much and it has been fun. I am trying to get used to talking more in class and sharing my opinions when asked.
Katie Rhodes Sophomore Class Publicity Officer 5-19-22 April/May Position Assessment-These last few months have been pretty slow. Recently, I have been making posts regarding selling t-shirts. I sold the t-shirts on Tuesday with Devin. We had the End of the Year Dance which was successful. We set up the decorations ahead of time. We made backpacks and cut paper for the Modesto Leadership Conference. I also helped out with Love Ripon, shoveling bark. Special Committee-I was a part of the publicity committee for the Challenge. Ava and I painted shaped posters for the dance and we put little flyers up for positivity regarding finals and AP exams. Standing Committee-I am currently not a part of any standing committee. Mentorship Evaluation-Abby and I have had some interesting conversations that have been helpful. She has helped me navigate my schedule for next year and has helped me with any questions I have. We have gone to lunch a couple of times and all around she is there if I have any questions. Concerns-During the Challenge, it was mentioned that some people aren’t doing their part. It is difficult to execute an event if not everyone does their part. We say we want to be involved and be leaders at school but we let our fellow leaders down. Those of us who did our work ended up having to fill in where it was needed. Everyone just needs to be doing their part and things will go much smoother. Positive Comment-The events that we have put on in these last few months have been successful. These last few months have been busy and schedules are full. People are stepping in when it is needed and they are busy too. It is nice to see people that aren’t normally stepping up. Change-It is the end of the year and people are still not doing what they are supposed to. They are letting their peers down and it is kind of getting annoying. To the people that are just trying to get everything done, good job. We are supposed to be examples and by this time in the year, we should be able to get our work done. You can’t expect other people to always pick up the work you don’t do. If you commit to something, do it. My Impact-I have just been trying to help out where I can. My job hasn’t given me too many tasks, so I fill my time by helping others complete their tasks. I am just trying to make a positive impact on people and give them a little bit of joy, whether it's by making them laugh or smile. I am trying to be helpful and make sure that I am getting all of my work done and not put it on other people.
